Activate / Inactivate a Domain
Domain state controls whether an ingest or delivery domain accepts traffic. Operators can toggle a domain between Active and Inactive states at any time from the Domains page. The effects of inactivation differ between ingest and delivery domain types.
Inactivating an Ingest Domain
Inactivating an ingest domain immediately stops all ongoing live streams on that domain. Encoders will be disconnected and viewers will lose access to any streams being delivered through an associated delivery domain. Perform this action during a planned maintenance window to minimize disruption.
When an ingest domain is set to Inactive, the following changes take effect immediately:
| Effect | Details |
|---|---|
| Transcoding templates disabled | All transcoding profiles associated with the domain are suspended |
| Recording templates disabled | Automatic recording stops; no new recordings are initiated |
| Screenshot templates disabled | Periodic screenshot capture is suspended |
| CNAME record disabled | The domain's CNAME resolution is deactivated at the CDN level |
| All ongoing streams stopped | Active stream connections are terminated immediately |
Inactivating a Delivery Domain
When a delivery domain is set to Inactive, all delivery requests to that domain are rejected. Viewers attempting to access streams through the inactive delivery domain receive an error response. Streams may still be actively pushed to the associated ingest domain, but they cannot be played back until the delivery domain is reactivated.
| Effect | Details |
|---|---|
| Delivery requests rejected | All viewer playback requests return an error |
| CDN edge serving suspended | Edge nodes stop serving content for the domain |
Reactivating a Domain
When a domain is returned to Active state, all previously configured settings are restored automatically. No manual reconfiguration is required.
| Restored Setting | Details |
|---|---|
| Templates | Transcoding, recording, and screenshot templates resume operating |
| CNAME record | CDN CNAME resolution is re-enabled |
| Delivery | The delivery domain resumes accepting viewer playback requests |
New stream pushes and viewer connections are accepted immediately after reactivation. Any streams that were active before inactivation must be re-pushed by the encoder.
